Where the Past Meets the Present
Meridian was founded in 1867 and finally abandoned in 1875 following a ruinous cyclone.
In the height of it's glory had around 250 residents.
George Weisel started a mill at the location and a town begin to grow. The first deed was recorded on January 2, 1869.
The town consisted of 36 blocks.
Meridian served as the
county seat, 1867-1868, and prior to that time business was
conducted from George
Weisel's store on the Big Sandy.

It grew to include a drug strore, grocery store, hotel, livery stable, doctor's office, two saloons, a general store, and blacksmith shop,
church, shoe shop, tin shop and school house.

This building survived the cyclone of 1875 and was purchased by Mr. Stanclift and torn down.

Very few headstones remain, many others were taken or broken,
There are a few others not
pictured.
All property in the area is private and posted.
The only public view is from the
roadway.

Persons of the area say it was used as a
dairy after Meridian was no longer a town.
